5 Signs of a Termite Infestation You Should Not Ignore

Termites cause an estimated 5 billion dollars of damage in America every year. When it comes to these pests, they’re no joke. If you have a termite infestation, it’s best to take care of it right away.

However, you may not know how to spot one. This can lead to the problem getting worse while you remain unaware. To make sure this doesn’t happen, read on to learn 5 signs of termites.

1. Seeing Termites

This tip may seem obvious, but it’s not. If you haven’t worked with a pest control service, you may find it hard to identify termites.

Some would describe them as looking and moving like pale ants. Those who try to identify termites by this description alone, however, are missing something. Before they mate, termites have wings.

Make sure that you research termites well. Look at a variety of photos. This may be the only way you’ll know you need to report them to a pest control company.

2. Hearing Termites

One termite may not make much noise. Dozens of them together, however, will make quite a racket.

You may hear termites warning each other of danger. A common sound they make is clicking. They also bang their heads against the wall for the same purpose.

If you’re unsure you’re hearing termites, consider getting a termite inspection. Learn more about this in the link.

3. Finding Mud Tubes

Do you see veins of mud on your outer or inner walls? Unless someone is making art, you have termites.

Termites struggle to survive in dry air. They also prefer not to build nests inside. These mud tunnels are necessary for them to travel to and from the home safely.

Without mud tunnels, there is no termite invasion. With mud tunnels, there is one. If you spot these, contact termite control services right away.

4. Spotting Paint Flakes

Termites don’t eat paint. They’ll usually eat down to the paint and stop. This caused the left behind paint to bubble or flake.

Be suspicious of a lot of paint that looks damaged out of nowhere. Also, look at the space the flaked paint has left behind. If you see holes, that proves there are termites.

5. Noticing Termite Droppings

The droppings of termites look like dirt or sawdust. It’s likely that you will mistake the former material for the others and ignore it.

Don’t do this. Try to investigate any unexplained particle pile you find in your home. If it’s next to a hole in the wall, it came from termites.
