Common Household Pests in Australia – What you Need to Know

If you are new to property ownership, it is a nice feeling to join the homeowner club and in this short blog, we offer some information about common household pests and how to deal with them.

  • Termites – It is a fact that termite prevention is a lot better than termite elimination, which is why you need termite treatments to ensure they never return. The first thing to do is ask a local pest control company to do a termite inspection and should the creature be detected, a course of action would be recommended.
  • Rodents – Rats and mice are extremely clever and they like to set up home where there is an abundance of food. A single female rat can have 15 litters in a year and once a colony sets up home in your home, they are very difficult to eliminate. Rodents spread disease, which is why you should call in the professionals if you see tell-tale signs such as droppings in the kitchen.
  • Spiders – As you probably know, Australia is home to some highly venomous spiders, creatures that like dry dark places. Of all the household pests, the spider is the most dangerous and calling in a pest control specialist is the safest way to remove these dangerous insects. The funnel web spider can be very aggressive, so if you encounter one, take note of the location and call a pest control company.
  • Cockroaches – We all seem to be terrified of these hardy little critters; there are more than 400 species, yet only a handful are likely to invade your home. They are usually active at night and will never be far from the kitchen, where food is stored. It is a myth that cockroaches are only found in dirty homes, all they need is a dry place and with the average kitchen, there is more than enough food.
  • Fleas – If you have pets, you are more likely to have fleas in your home and they can survive in places you can’t see. They bite and carry disease, which is why you should bring in a pest control specialist to eliminate all traces of fleas.

If you notice signs of household pests, don’t delay in calling in a local pest control officer who has all the solutions in his mobile workshop.
