Important factors to consider when choosing a mattress.

Your favoured sleep position, body type and preferred materials will all help to determine what kind of mattress is best suited for your needs. You will of course also consider cost, convenience, durability and any sleep issues you may have. There are several common types of mattresses available but memory foam and innerspring beds are the most popular. Each mattress type can offer you a wide range of firmness and price. If you need a mattress for a specific health condition it would be smart to contact Forte Health Care, but if you need a mattress at home, consider the following information:

Memory foam.

Memory foam mattresses can give you the best pressure relief as they conform to the contours of your body and take weight off any pressure points. They are ideal if you sleep on your side or suffer from back pain as they promote proper spine alignment and put less stress on your shoulders and hips. They also help to prevent you from feeling your sleeping partner move. Although memory foam can trap heat, many brands now contain built-in cooling features.

Latex.

Latex mattresses feel similar to memory foam but are more resilient and firmer. Latex is a natural product made from the sap of rubber trees which can make it a good choice for eco-conscious shoppers. It does however tend to be more expensive than memory foam.

Innerspring.

Innerspring mattresses are made of steel coils, which makes them firmer. They may feel familiar to many compared to the boxed mattresses that are now popular. They are suitable for people who sleep on their backs or stomachs because they have a firmer surface which helps keep the spine aligned. You should consider both coil gauge and coil count with innerspring mattresses. Coil gauge relates to firmness and durability. Coil count indicates the number of coils in the mattress, and “pocketed coils” can offer you targeted support.

Hybrid.

Hybrid mattresses are made using a combination of memory foam or latex and coils. Normally, coils are in the bottom of the mattress to provide support, and foam is on top for pressure relief. Many hybrids feel similar to foam beds, but they are more expensive and heavier to set up at home.

Adjustable.

Adjustable mattresses have air chambers with which you can control the firmness of the mattress. They are useful for couples who have different preferences for a mattress. They are expensive and less commonly available, but couples will be more likely to experience improved quality of sleep.
