Erotic Lingerie: What Makes It So Sexy?

You’re getting ready for a date and you want to wear something sexy. You open your closet and all you see is cute, but not sexy, underwear. Sure, there’s nothing wrong with your cotton briefs, but you can do better.

It’s time to buy some erotic lingerie.

But what is erotic lingerie, and why do people like it so much? Let’s talk about it. Read on to learn all about lingerie!

What Is Lingerie?

Lingerie comes from a French term. In the 1920s, when people first started using the word “lingerie,” it just meant bras and underwear. Nowadays, when someone says “lingerie,” they’re almost always referring to women’s undergarments of the “sexy” variety.

That’s right, while your boyshorts and camis might technically be lingerie, they won’t come to mind for the majority of people when you refer to them as such (unless those people are particularly enticed by more “typical” underwear).

Lingerie is also no longer restricted to bras and underwear. Lingerie can include corsets, garters, garter belts, stockings, teddies, body suits, and even robes as long as they’re intended for bedroom use.

In 2022, there are more types and varieties of lingerie than ever. You can pick up lingerie at any mall, big-box department store, or 24 hour adult store

So why do people love it when their partners wear lingerie?

It Shows Intention

When your partner sees that you went through the effort to put on lingerie (especially considering a lot of lingerie isn’t exactly comfortable), they know that they have the green light for a fun night. You’ve displayed your intention with your clothing.

It also shows that you’re doing something for them.

It’s important that you can also wear lingerie for yourself. If you love getting dressed up in something sexy while you’re home alone, do it! You don’t need a partner or a voyeur in order to wear something that makes you feel good.

That said, when you’re with a partner, it shows them that you went the extra mile in order to show off for them. That small amount of extra effort is attractive!

Wearing Lingerie That’s Visible in Normal Outfits

If you really want a date to know your intentions, you can wear lingerie pieces that are still visible with whatever you’re already wearing. This doesn’t mean that you can’t dress appropriately in public. Consider the lingerie an accessory.

For example, wearing a sexy bralette or harness that has straps that go across your chest looks harmless, but it shows that there’s something underneath that you’re waiting to show off later.

It was once normal to wear garter belts with stockings, but now that’s considered sexy. If you show a bit of the garter belt, your date will know that you’ve got something spicy on underneath your outfit.

That’s hot!

It Flatters the Body

Remember that “flattering” is subjective. Most people, however, choose lingerie that they think flatters their body, and in most cases, they’re right.

Lingerie is meant to highlight your best shapes and body parts. Whether you’re busty, have curvy hips, a soft stomach, great legs, or anything else, there’s a type of lingerie that will flatter you.

Most other types of clothing (aside from clubwear) don’t try to highlight the parts of the body with the most sex appeal.

We’ll talk more about choosing lingerie that “flatters” your body type later on.

It Shows Confidence

Wearing lingerie shows a huge amount of confidence (even if it’s false confidence). Everyone knows that it’s scary to wear something “out of the ordinary” for the first time, especially if they don’t know how it will be received.

When you wear lingerie, you’re owning your body and your sexual power. People love confidence!

Does Lingerie Have to be Revealing to be Sexy?

There’s a misconception that all lingerie has to be revealing. This isn’t true. Sure, you won’t be wearing a turtleneck and leggings when you slip into something more comfortable, but you also don’t have to be in a g-string and pasties.

There’s plenty of lingerie that offers more coverage if that’s what you’re looking for. Silky nightgowns and lacy robes all offer plenty of coverage for people who aren’t into the idea of showing a lot of skin.

Finding Lingerie to Suit Your Style & Body

If the idea of wearing sexy lingerie is scary, don’t worry. There’s lingerie for everyone (regardless of body shape, weight, or gender). You just have to find the right style for you!

If you’re someone who feels uncomfortable with an exposed belly, that doesn’t mean that you can’t wear lingerie. Babydolls are perfect for you. They’re tight around the chest and they fan out over the belly so you have more coverage.

This doesn’t make them less sexy.

If you want belly coverage, but you still want conventional two-piece lingerie sets, we recommend adding a garter belt. These belts are high-waisted and thick, so it’s like adding a higher waistband to whatever lingerie set that you’re already wearing. It will also pinch in your waist if that’s something that matters to you.

If you want something soft, opt for lace and silk. This is great for a “gentle” appearance.

If, on the other hand, you’re into a more “dominant” look, faux leather and latex are great options. Pair a slick black lingerie set with some black gloves and garters for a cohesive (and sexy) look.

If you’re totally at a loss, we recommend visiting a local lingerie shop to get a bra fitting and try some new things on. You’ll never know what looks good until you try.
